RIP Abe Vigoda

Just wanted to post a short note on the passing of Abe Vigoda.  I was lucky enough to get Abe's autograph through the mail back in December of 2010.  He unfortunately signed the backs of the customs I made and had I been on my game I should have sent to him again after he was featured on an Allen and Ginter card in 2013.  Abe was 94.

Almost - the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web 6 Conference Chamionship round out - And then there were four

Wow.  I was predicting an Arizona - New England Super Bowl out of the final four.  I guess we know for sure I'm not psychic.  The overwhelming majority of you also predicted that at the start and with Denver and Carolina winning that drops our finalists down to just 4!  Here's another interesting fact the two guys, Greg and Adam, who predicted the Broncos have both correctly guess the opponent. And if Denver wins both  Dion and Wilson who picked Carolina picked the Patriots as the opponent so not matter what we'll have to go to the second tie breaker.   So what I'm saying is all 4 of you are still in it, it's anybodies contest to win!!!

KO Rob - New England Patriots over the Arizona Cardinals, 51 points, 4 turnovers
JediJeff - Cardinals over Bengals, 38 points, 2 turnovers
Lonestarr - Arizona over New England, 64 points, 2 turnovers
RAZ - Cardinals over Broncos, 61 points, 3 turnovers, 1 crushed Denver fan.
Adam Kaningher - Broncos over Panthers, 41 points, 3 turnovers.
Matthew Scott - New England over Carolina 52 pts and 2 turnovers.
John Hazen - Cardinals over Bengals, 45 points, 1 turnover
Wilson - Carolina over New England, 60 points, 4 turnovers
Defgav - New England Patriots over Green Bay Packers, 44 points, 4 turnovers
Greg Zakwin - Denver over Carolina, 34 points, 2 turnovers.
GCA - Arizona over Denver, 34 points, and 2 turnovers
Dion's IP Autos only - Panthers over Patriots 55 points 3 Turnovers
Shanepatrickwrites - Cardinals over broncos, 43 points, 3 turnovers
Milwaukee Southpaw - Arizona over Kansas City, 46 points, 2 turnovers
Angus - Arizona over New England, 52 points, 3 turnovers
The Lost Collector - Patriots over Cardinals. 44 points. 3 TOs.

The Finalists!!

Adam Kaningher - Broncos over Panthers, 41 points, 3 turnovers.
Greg Zakwin - Denver over Carolina, 34 points, 2 turnovers.
Wilson - Carolina over New England, 60 points, 4 turnovers

TTM Success - Ben Oglivie...Again??!!??

You're not seeing double.  I posted about a return from Ben earlier this year and it's entirerly possible that those cards are the ones I sent out in 2012 and these were the ones from November.  But whatever way you want to look at it I got my original request filled too, almost 4 years later.  Ben was signing for Topps Archives in 2012 so that may have been why I got no initial response.  But this also makes my longest wait for a success yet, a spot held by Ray Searage until now.  Still nice to get them back and an unexpected surprise.  Thanks again Ben.

Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web 6 - Wild Card Weekend Round Up

Well that was an interesting weekend of football.  I'm not sure I expected the Chiefs to manhandle the Texans and I'm very pleased my Packers seemed to gel at least after the first quarter.  I think we all can agree that the other two games were pretty crazy and both the Steelers and Seahawks having luck on their side.

That being said with the Bengals pretty much beating themselves and Blair Walsh getting the Ace Ventura treatment we didn't really lose too many people this round.

With the Redskins and Texans getting eliminated and no one picking them we will have a winner!! All the remaining teams have at least one pick.  Out of the 31 original contestants we only lost 2.  But things will get much more interesting next week.  Good job everybody!

Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web 6 - Official Entries Post

It's go time!!  I'm enjoying the first game of the playoffs and figure I'd better get this official picks post up. I've also dug out the grand prize.  The winner will win this 1996 Limited Edition Tombstone Pizza Milkcap/Pog Quarterback Club set.  These were only available via a special mail in offer on specially marked Tombstone Pizzas back in 1996.  The pizzas also came with a single player pog.  These are a little harder to find and the only one I could find on ebay the seller is asking about $25 so not a bad prize.  Plus there are no duds in this set.  You should recognize just about everyone on here, Montana, Rice, Favre, Marino, Sanders, and more.  A really neat oddball Plus I just picked up a 4000 count box of NFL rookies from Don's earlier this week and have been putting all the cards into teams so the winner will also receive a stack of rookies from the box from their favorite team or what ever team they like. The door prize winner will also receive a nice stack of cards from their favorite team and maybe a few other goodies.

We had 31 entries this year.  Not the most entries of one of my contests, but a very respectable turn out.  Here are your official entries.  If you see something amiss let me know.  I'll be updating after playoff weekend is over.  Good luck everyone/

Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web 6!! Official Entry Post

Hey Boys and Girls it's that time of year again and while I've been pretty silent on the blog I'm not going to let that stop me from holding my longest running contest.  I can't believe this will be my 6th Annual Super Bowl contest.  Yep 6 big ones.  I'm writing this up as the Pack and Vikings figure out who's going to win the NFL North, but both teams are going to the playoffs so let's get this thing started.  I have some idea of what I'm going to do for prizes, but I'll save that for a later post.

All you have to do to win this contest is tell me who's going to win the Super Bowl.  And as always we'll have a few tie breakers as well.
So tell me who's going to win, who the opponent will be, total points scored in the game (both teams), and how many turnovers (both teams.
So you entry should look like this

Green Bay over New England, 56 points, and 3 turnovers

And as always I'll have a door prize just for signing up and if you promote the contest you'll get an extra entry.

Here are you choices.

AFC
Denver Broncos
New England Patriots
Cincinnati Bengals
Houston Texans
Kansas City Chiefs
Pittsburgh Steelers

NFC
Carolina Panthers
Arizona Cardinals
Green Bay Packers
Washington Redskins
Minnesota Vikings
Seattle Seahawks

Alrighty this post will serve as the official sign up for this contest and I'll post reminders all week. You have until Saturday, January 9th, Noon Alaska time, 4pm EST.

Alright Good luck everybody!!

TTM Success - Ben Oglivie

Happy New Year everyone.  I had a very low key New Year's Eve as I was recovering from travel back to Alaska from the Lower 48 visiting family for the holidays.

Back at the end of November I sent out two TTMs.  Just two.  And I finally got my second one back and it's kind of a big one for me.  I tried Ben Oglivie back in 2012 the same year he signed cards for Topps new Archives brand.  I never got a response.  But I had been seeing a ton of returns for him over at Sports Card Forum so I figured why not.

I sent Ben 2 cards his 1980 and 1981 Topps cards.  The 1981 is a the first Brewers card from that set that I've gotten signed so it's nice to fill a hole.  The 1980 card marks the third I've for that set.  I have a small side project trying to get as many of the 1982 World Series team as possible and getting to finally cross Ben off that list is great.
