30 Day Baseball Card Challenge - Day 4

Day 4 - A rookie card of one of your favorite players.

It should come as no surprise that I chose a card from my all time favorite player, Robin Yount.  What might surprise you is which rookie card I chose.  Since I'm going to feature Robin's 1975 Topps card eventually I figure why not feature a great oddball now.  My 1975 Hostess Twinkie card.  The 1975 Hostess set was Hostess' first attempt at what would become an annual offering, at least for the next 5 years. In the 70's you didn't have a whole lot of selection when it came to baseball cards, so the Hostess set added that little extra for collectors.  Of course the Twinkies were set directly on the cards so, except for the rare unused versions of these, they all have grease stains.  But for me it's like a relic card with dirt still in the fabric. It just adds character.

30 Day Baseball Card Challenge - Day 3

Day 3 - A card from the first set you tried to complete.

It's funny how many other collectors I've interacted with also list 1987 Topps Baseball as the first set they tried to put together.  1987 would mark the year I officially became a baseball card collector.  Before that I had dabbled with a pack here and there and of course I was all in with Garbage Pail Kids.  But the 1987 set is the first set I built.  I'm sure I've still got the original set somewhere.

And I chose a card of a player I really liked and still like, one of the last two sport players and a guy who's career got cut way to short.

30 Day Baseball Card Challenge - Day 2

Day 2: A card with more than one player on it.

This one was a little tougher.  Tony's Challenge really didn't have any rules stating the card had to be in my collection.  But I ended up picking one that was.  As a Robin Yount supercollector I have a feeling a lot of my picks will feature Robin, but this one also features all his 1999 HOF induction classmates.  The 1999 HOF class was solid.  With Robin Yount, George Brett, Nolan Ryan, and Orlando Cepeda.  And I love cards like this that feature that class.

So my pick for Day 2 is the 2014 Panini Golden Age Star Stamps #26.

30 Day Baseball Card Challenge - Day 1

Tony over at Off Hiatus Sportcards recently posted a great idea based on another idea that I'm sure was based on something else.  But regardless I'm all in.  Because, one I haven't felt like blogging. Two these will be 30 easyish post to come up with.  And three, why not?

So first up Day 1: A card from the current year with a photo you like.

I went with fun.  It's interesting that the Brewers got two cards in the Opening Day Mascots set.  Especially since it seems like pulling teeth getting Topps to give an respect to the club or it's players, but Hank's story is pretty cool and how can you not love that face?  Hank was found as a stray at the Brewers Spring Training facility in Arizona.  After attempting to find his owners the team officially adopted him and he's been a fixture around the team since 2014.

TTM Success Junior Guerra

I am always excited to get a TTM back. Especially if it's a player I haven't gotten yet.  And doubley it if it's on a Topps year I haven't gotten yet.  And triply if it's an actually active roster player.  And finally if he's actually pretty good.  Getting Junior Guerra fits just about all those.  Plus so far he's the only request out of the 8 I sent out that I've gotten back.  Sure getting Braun to actually sign TTM is a long shot, but I keep trying.  Still awesome to get Junior back!

The Big Wiener

Who doesn't love free cards?  A few weeks ago Chris AKA Raz from The Raz Card Blog, got ahold of me telling me I had won a prize from one of his contests.  I'll be honest I had no idea what he was talking about, so I had to go search his blog to find out.  But hey I won't say no to free stuff.  A couple weeks later I got a small envelope and this was inside.
I think this might be my first Sega Card Gen card.  I'm not too familiar with the cards, other than what I've read on the blogs and Googled, but from what I could find these were part of a arcade game.  Although someone will have to tell me if you won these or had to buy them and then use them to play.
This might also be one of my only Japanese cards too.  Pretty sweet.  Thank Chris
