I got my grubby little hands on a few retail jumbo packs on my recent run to the grocery store. I grabbed two packs and featured one of them over at A Pack to Be Named Later, but I figure I'd feature everything from both here. I won't bore you with the base cards. You get 4 or 5 inserts and/or parallels per pack so I came out with about 60 base cards and no doubles.
I did get a couple cards from my team. It doesn't come though from the scan, but this Lohse card is a foil parallel. The only noticeable difference from Series 1 is that is says Series Two over the card number on the back.
Since this isn't suppose to be released yet we'll have to wait to see what inane variations Topps has come up with this round, but if you look close at the bottom of Kyles card you'll see the last 3 digits in the code # are 764. All my base cards have that same code number so if it holds true all the variations will have a different number.
Here are the continuing inserts.
These 1st Home Run inserts are a carry over as well and again retail only. I pulled one from each pack.
Topps does have some new inserts for this set. First up is Stepping Out.
and 'Til It's Over.
I like the idea of both of these inserts, but I'm not wild about the design. And like just about every insert this year they all have relic, autograph, and relic autograph versions, although not for every subject.
The last two inserts I do kind of like. Hot Streak with it's Mission Impossible burning fuse.
And Heart of the Order with it's use of baseball bats and wood grain. Both kind of remind me of those great inserts from days gone by and of course seeing Jose in he's A's uniform helps with the Throwback Thursday feel.
I did get one decent "hit" if you want to call it that. A pink parallel. I'm up on my Orioles, is Flaherty any good?
Well there you go 72 cards worth of fun. I'll be slowly piecing this set together so save your extras for me.

Thrifting Anchorage Part 2
Another two pack of comics for $1.99. I couldn't resist when I saw the Wanted #1. Of course both comics in the pack would go on to be made into movies, but the Red issue was just a bonus. I didn't bother to check the database at comicbookrealm.com at the time, but once I got home I was pleased to find out that the Wanted comic is the variant and actually worth a few more bucks.
Next up some card finds!

TTM Success - Matt Clark
I sent Matt Clark his only major league baseball card and got it back in record time. Matt got called up last year and got 16 games in last year. He's currently on the 40-man roster, but is sitting in Colorado Spring playing for Milwaukee's Triple-A team the Sky Sox.
Panini decided to feature him as one of the four Brewers cards in the Diamond Kings set. I'm always appreciative of an auto, but a thicker Sharpie probably would have made this pop. Not Matt's fault and I am glad to get a new TTM.

Thrifting Anchorage Part 1
I live relatively close to a Value Village thrift store. It's convenient when I want to get rid of stuff, but from time to time I also find some great deals. I try to stop in at least once a month. My main goal is to try and find cheap Lego pieces. I'm building a hoard for my son to play with when he's old enough.
It's kind of laughable sometimes what stuff gets priced at at the store. Sometimes I find stuff that I can't believe is priced so low and other times I wonder if the pricer was on crack because it's so high. Recently I've noticed that they've been putting out two to three packs of comics. Usually I don't bother because they're over priced and usually in terrible shape, but I noticed that most of the books were bagged and boarded and were priced at 98 cents per comic, so two packs were $1.99. Most of the stuff didn't interest me as I've shifted away from comic books, but there were a few packs that had promise. And then I notice a pack that had the first two issues of The Shaolin Cowboy from Burlyman Comics. I'd actually picked up most of the run of this series back when it came out in the mid 2000's, but had missed issue 2. I'm a big fan of Geof Darrow's detailed art and story telling.
I also thought I remembered that these were worth few bucks. So I got on my phone and surfed over to Comicbookrealm.com and looked up the issues and yep they were worth a couple bucks. More precisely they were worth $55 bucks combined!
Anybody else had luck at the thrift store?
I've been finding all sorts of good stuff and since I haven't had a whole lot to blog about will most likely making this a reoccurring theme in the coming months.

Redemption
How long have you waited for a redemption? For me it was over a year and a half for my John McEnroe Allen and Ginter auto.
So having to wait over 6 months for this redemption shouldn't seem all that bad, but I started to worry that I might not get it and even more I'd have to take a substitution. I've been lucky enough that even if I've had to wait a while I still got the card I put the redemption in for. I was super excited a few weeks ago when I notice Odell Beckham Jr. finally signed his stickers for Topps. You may, or more likely, not remember since it was so long ago I ended up picking up a cheap box of 2014 Prime and pulled a redemption for this copper parallel autograph.
Fast forward to about 7 o'clock this evening and a FedEx truck pulls up and low and behold here it is.the Autographed Rookie Variation Copper Parallel card.
Prices are still holding strong for Odell's autos, but I'll probably wait till football season to let it go. Still I'm glad I finally got it.

Money for Nothing and my Cards for Free
I'll be honest I don't remember sending in a NPN request for Panini Prizm Football, but when an envelope from Panini showed up in my mailbox well I'm not going to say no.
Inside was this shiny Pink Breast Cancer Awareness parallel of Kenny Stills. Kenny had a pretty decent season last year if you don't count not getting into the endzone that much.
He is now a Dolphin having been traded in March.
Not my first NPN success I've also gotten a random Topps baseball insert, can't remember what year and a silver bordered Garbage Pail Kid, I can't remember the set. I don't do a lot of NPNs anymore, but I still try to send ones in for some of Topps higher end stuff, because for the price of a stamp that's a decent raffle.

I'm still here...here are some trades
Yeah I've been AWOL. Blame it on what you will, I just haven't felt like blogging and haven't had too much to blog about. But I figure I'd send a couple thank yous for some recent trades and random acts of kindness. First up Justin from Justin's World ask if he could trade for my First Pitch inserts that I didn't want. He ended up sending me a few set needs and this
A couple great TTM's for some guys I don't have autos for yet. Much appreciated.
Brian over at Play at the Plate offered up free cards in a PWE giveaway simply for sending him your address. I couldn't resist. What I got was a little overwhelming.
Brian sent me some great Big Hurts for the collection.
A nice smattering of Brewers and Blackawks
And this guy.. Jimmy Hayes was up and down with the Blackhawks the three years he was with the team and my Blackhawks collection is just getting started this is my first auto and it's Gold parallel #d to 25! Jimmy is currently playing with the Florida Panthers.
Yeah he stuffed all that in my PWE!
Thanks Justin and Brian and everyone else who's sent me cards that I haven't done a post for. I'm still here and trading and reading. And maybe the ennui will wear off and I'll be posting more regularly again.
