So what's in the box?

I saw a post over at Sports Card Info about the new Collector Crate. Similar to Loot Crate. You can subscribe and get monthly mystery boxes full of packs, sports figures, game used cards and autos.  The company offers three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold, starting at $29.99, $69.99, and $99.99 respectively.  The site is up and running right now and taking it's first orders.  We'll have to see if prices come down. Loot crate is only $13 bucks a month and if you do a yearly subscription it's only $11, so if Collector Crate can get it's prices a little lower by working with the companies this might get really hot.

It'll be interesting to see what they pull out for the first boxes due later this month.  I for one don't have the means to drop even thirty bucks right now, but for a few of you with a little more disposable income might be worth a look. Oh and you can get $5 off your first box with the Promo code 5OFFOCTOBERLAUNCH.

Update:  Alright I ordered one. I'll do a box break down when I get it. CB

  1. The price comparison between LootCrate & CollectorCrate isn't quite as bad as you make it sound - LootCrate's $11-$13 price does not include shipping, while CollectorCrate's packages do. Still, $30 is more than I want to spend for random baseball cards. Get the price down to $20 (or include enough stuff that it feels special), and I might think about it when I have more disposable income again.

  2. You're right Paul I didn't figure in the $6 shipping from Loot Crate and if you figure that in the cheapest collector crate is about 23 bucks. We'll see what I get and if it was worth it. I still have this image of breaking open one of those Fairfield repacks with one good pack on the front and 7 packs of 91 Fleer Baseball behind it.

  3. I might have to check this out. Hope I have the money to get it, I think I should. Thanks for giving the heads up.

  4. It will be interesting to see what comes in these boxes. If they are legitimately decent cards and not just leftover from what Fairfield couldn't sell in repacks, it might be worth it!

  5. I ordered one using the $5 discount code from their Facebook page. Just the base bronze level. I don't see it as being a regular thing that I get every month, but as an occasional alternative to a repack from Target it seems pretty cool. I am also worried that it will turn out to be underwhelming, with one or two packs of something decent and four packs each of 2008 Topps Update and 2012 Opening Day. I am not really expecting anything big out of the guaranteed relics and autos, but I am hopeful that whatever extras come in the box will be interesting to me or something that my kids will have fun with.

  6. Thanks for sharing. These are pretty cool. It's probably smart to order their inaugural box... since they're going to want to kick things off with decent reviews. I'm tempted to grab one, but I spent way too much money in September.
