Panini Loses it's NHL license

Come June 30th only Upper Deck will be making NHL cards.  I'm not a big collector of hockey cards, but I still don't think this exclusivity is a good thing.

You can read the official Panini statement HERE.

Now the NFL is the only sport that has more than one company making it's trading cards.

Thoughts?

  1. Do sports leagues really make more money by only going with one company making their cards? Seems very stupid, limiting who can promote your sport, basically. I'd rather go back to the early 90s where there were a near-infinite number of companies putting out legit cards, though ideally you'd have a small number of "big boys" engaging in health competition and giving fans options for collecting.

    1. I don't know if going back to the late 90's early 2000's where there were multiple products coming out every week is the way to go. That was tough not only for a consumer stand point, but card shops not know what was going to be hot having to buy so much. But I do miss the variety and I do miss the healthy competition. I think there has to be a healthy middle ground between the way it was back in the 90's and now.
