Winner Winner Chicken Dinner - 12th Annual Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web has a winner!!!

Wow I can't believe it's already over.  I had a nice afternoon enjoying the game at home.  I really had no horse in the race so I was really just hoping for a great competitive game (I might have been leaning on rooting for the Bengals just a little).  And boy did we get that!  It was a lot lower scoring than a lot of you predicted, but how can you complain when the game was so close the entire way and really came down to the last drive.  I'm glad Stafford and Donald get rings and wow Kupp was impressive, but Burrow, Mixon, and Higgins were equally fun to watch.  If the Bengals can keep that team intact they will be ruling the AFC North, heck maybe all of the AFC for some time.

Ahem, let's get down to what you all are here for.  We had 4 teams going into the finals.  Two had who picked the Bengals and two for the Rams.  No one correctly predicted the opponent so we have to move to total points and boy did our two correct picks way over predict that!  But by the margin of just one point CaptKirk42 is our grand prize winner!!!!!!

bbcardz - LA Rams over Kansas City Chiefs, 72 points, 3 field goals PIMP

Twinkiller on TCDb - Bengals over Packers, (Yeah that's right,) 54 points, 4 FG

CaptKirk42 - Rams over Bills 71 points 5 FGs

Huskerfan22 - Cincinnati over Green Bay, 59 points, 5 FGS tcdb: Huskerfan22

A complete correct guess with tie breakers would have been:

Bengals over Rams, 43 Pts, 3 FGs

Kirk just happens to be a Rams fan, I guess that's not too surprising.  Kirk also writes a couple blogs the most relevant is CaptKirk42s Trading Card Blog. Kirk I'll be sending you an email here shortly, I think I have some nice Rams stuff for your collection.  Also I'm fairly certain (without going back through my notes) that Kirk has won one of my contests before.

But wait we ain't done yet.  We still have a door prize to give away.  As is our policy, everyone who entered (and I have to add this caveat,  everyone who entered and had an identifiable entry, we had 3 unknowns that were removed)  has a chance at the door prize.  People who promoted the contest got an extra entry.  The names of everyone who entered were entered into a list randomizer at random.org and the list was randomized 3 times!

And it's Fuji!! Who writes the great blog The Chronicles of Fuji.  Fuji is a fellow Packers fan, but also collects Seahawks (so he's probably getting Seahawks).

Again I just want to thanks everyone who entered!! I know I've really slacked on the blogging front for that last couple years, but it's awesome to have such a great turn out for a contest.  Kirk and Fuji I will be contacting both of you to make sure I have current shipping addresses.

Now let's just hope we have a baseball season so I can have the my 12th Annual World Series contest!!!

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner - Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web Finale!!!!

Well, well, well.  I have to say I'm at a loss for words.  That was a completely unexpected outcome.  While I have a few issues with some of the officiating and calls, that was a pretty impressive feat by the Bucs and Tom Brady.  I really don't think anyone expected Kansas City to be held to under 10 points and the team didn't score a touchdown.  We had thirteen players going into Super Bowl Sunday and the overwhelming majority favoring the Chiefs, but three intrepid contestants picked the Bucs to take it all.  None of the three that chose Tampa Bay correctly picked the opponent, so we have to move to total points and boy did everyone think this would be a fairly high scoring game.  In the end the perfect pick would have been

Tampa Bay Buccaneers over Kansas City Chiefs, 40 points, 4 FG

And the person who picked the lowest combined score is the winner is Paul from Scribbled Ink!!!! So Paul I'll contacting you for shipping info soon!

Josh D. - Kansas City Chiefs over Green Bay Packers - 48 points - 2 FG

John Sharp - Bucs over Ravens, 56 points, 3 FGs.

GTT - KC Chiefs over Saints, 59 points, 4 FGs.

Scribbled Ink - Bucs over Bills, 55 points, 3 FGs

jlcre2003 - Kansas City Chiefs over Green Bay Packers, 61 points, 4 FGs

KMack - Chiefs over Saints, 34-24. 3 FG's.

Fuji - Kansas City Chiefs over Green Bay Packers - 61 points - 4 FG - PIMP

kcjays - Kansas City over Green Bay - 65 points - 3 Field Goals

Dion's IP Autos only - KC Chiefs over GB Packers total of 69 points 2 Field Goals.

abraham - Kansas City over Green Bay, 69 points, 1 field goal

Ben Morris - Tampa Bay over Buffalo. 74 total points 5 FG

Matt - Chiefs over packers 62 pts

Trevor P - Chiefs over Bucs, 55 points, 1 FG - PIMP

Autographs2000 (TCDB) Kansas City over Green Bay, 60 pts, 2 FG

And let's not forget our door prize drawing.  I added all the entries from the official entries post and gave the four people who promoted the contest an extra entry, I went over to random.org and entered the list and randomized it 3 times.  And the winner is......

Josh D who writes the blog, but hasn't in a while, Royals and Randoms.

I'll be contacting both our winners for current shipping address and choice of team for their prize packs.

Thanks again for all those who entered and played this year!!  Stay safe.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner 10th Annual Almost the Easiest World Series Contest on the Web Grand Prize Winner has been crowned!!

We have a winner!! Not only that but we have a very decisive winner.  In the end we had 12 people correctly pick the winner of this year's World Series.  That most definitely has to be a record in the 10 year history of this contest, but I don't keep those kind of stats.  Out of those 12 we had two entries that correctly picked the match up between the Dodgers and the Ray.  But we only had one guy pick the correct games in the series and so the winner is......drum roll please...... Chris aka Nachos Grande!!.  Not only did Chris get the Winner, the opponent, the number of games in the series, he was only one off the total number of doubles in the series.

A perfect entry would have been Dodgers over Rays in 6, 17 Doubles.  Chris came pretty damn close.  So congrats Chris who wins the lovely Mr. Cartoon Don Mattingly Project 2020 cards and also a nice stack of his Reds.

But wait it ain't over yet.  I want to thank the 40 people who entered this year, that might also be a record for the contest.  Just for entering I also give a door prize away to one lucky random person.  If you were kind enough to promote the contest I also gave you a extra entry in the door prize drawing and thank you to those who helped promote the contest this year.  I entered all the names of everyone who entered into a list randomizer over at random.org and randomized the list 3 times.

And our Door Prize winner is....

John Sharp!!! Who writes the delightful blog John's Big League Baseball Blog and is a Tigers fan.  Congrats John! I will be contacting you for your address shortly.

Thanks again for all those who entered.

Here were the picks going into the World Series:

Joseph Blaschke - Dodgers over Rays in 5, 9 Doubles

10th Annual Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web Winners!!!

Wow what a great game.  Much better than last year.  I have to say the intro to the game was very cute.  In the end we had 7 Players correctly pick that the Chiefs were going to win the Super Bowl.  Of those 7 we had 3 correctly guess that the opponent would be the 49ers, so we move to total points and we have one left standing.  Congrats to Elliptical Man.  I'm not familiar with the handle and I'm pretty sure this might be their first year playing, although I could be wrong about that too.  And a shout out to JediJeff and Trevor P for also correctly guessing the match-up and Robert for picking the Chiefs and getting the final score correct!

The perfect pick would have been

Chiefs over 49ers, 51 points, 3 FGs.

The finalists:

Fuji - 49ers over Ravens, 65 points, 3 field goals.

Brett Alan - Chiefs over Packers, 48 points, 2 FGs.

Elliptical Man - Chiefs over 49ers, 47 points, 4 FGs

Adam Kaningher - 49ers over Patriots, 41 points, 2 FGs

Brad Hill - Chiefs over Saints, 55 points, 2 FGs

JediJeff - Chiefs over 49ers, 45 points, 1 FG

Robert - Kansas City Chiefs over the New Orleans Saints 31-20, 1 FG.

Trevor P - Chiefs over 49ers, 43 points, 5 FGs

bbcardz - Kansas City Chiefs over the Green Bay Packers, 67 total points, 5 FG's

Now on to the door prize.  Everyone who entered had a shot of winning the door prize.  All entries were entered into a list randomizer over at random.org and the list was randomized 3 times.  This year no one left me a note saying that they pimped the contest so there were no bonus entries.  And your winner is (drum roll here)....

KMack a fellow Trading Card Database Member.

Both winners will receive a nice stack of cards of their favorite team, what goes in the prize pack depends on what I have on hand.  Elliptical Man and KMack I will be contacting you for address and team preferences in the next couple days.

Congrats to the winners and a big thanks to everyone that played.

9th Annual Almost the Easiest World Series Contest on the Web - Winners!!!

My apologies for the delay in getting the Championship post up, it's been a busy week.  But man what a great series and holy moly what a great game 7.  Well if your a Nationals fan, and it just so happens that our Grand Prize winner is!  One man picked the Nationals to win it all, so all the tie breaks are moot, unless those of you who picked the Astros want to figure out who came closest.

Anyway the correct prediction and tie breaks would have been

Nationals over the Astros, in 7, 22 Home Runs!  And other than missing the opponent Kirk came damn close to a correct prediction to the outcome.

CaptKirk42 - Nats over Twins 7 games 24 HRs

Vrooomed - Astros over Braves, in 6, 18 HRs

Sportzcommish - Astros over Dodgers in 6 with 20 homers between them.

RAZ - Astros over Dodgers, 7 games, 21 HRs.

Ben Morris - Astros over Brave, in 7, 18 HRs

Fuji -  Astros over Dodgers, in 6, 17 HRs

Matt - Astros over Dodgers, 5 games, 12 HRs - PIMP

FiresNBeers - Astros over Braves, in 6, 15 HRs

KMack - Astros over Dodgers in 5 games. 13 HR's.

Scribbled Ink - Astros over Dodgers in 6, 30 HRs

jlcre2003 - Astros over Dodgers in 7, 14 HRs

Nachos Grande - Astros over Dodgers, again. 7 Games, 28 HRs

Ray - Astros over dodgers in 6, 15

defgav - Astros sweep Dodgers, 10 HRs

It's clear from the entries that the favorites to make it to the end were the Astro and Dodgers.  Had the Astros won RAZ would have taken home the prize.  Besides getting a full set of 1990 Classic, Kirk will also get a nice selection of Nationals cards I can find laying around.

But let's not forget that if you remembered to submit an entry you've still got a shot at the door prize which was more Classic cards and a nice stack of cards from your favorite team.  As in previous contests I added all the names of those who entered, people that promoted the contest and remembered to tell me get an extra entry, into a list randomizer over at random.org and then randomized the list 3 times.  Let's see who won.

Dion who writes Dion'sIPAutosOnly blog, an Angels fan that will get a nice stack of Angels as well as the complete 1990 Classic Travel set.  I'll be sending out emails to both our winners later to get make sure I have current address for both of them and hopefully get prizes out in the next couple days.

Thanks again to everyone who played this year.  Don't forget I'll have my 10th Annual, yep it's a big one, Super Bowl contest later this year!!  Also I've got some plans for the blog, not big plans, but plans to get back to blogging on a more regular basis, so stay tuned.

Again congrats to the winners!!!

Almost the Easiest World Series Contest on the Web -- The Winners

Well hell I have to say I'm glad to see that game 7 was a real chess match. I didn't see Hudson only lasting 1 2/3 innings, but after Bumgarner came in I think it was over for the Royals. Anywho...

Congratulations to Paul Hadsall who writes the great blog Paul's Random Baseball Stuff.
Paul was the only person to correctly pick that the Giants would win the World Series.  And honestly that's the whole contest.  Here's Paul's winning entry.

Paul Hadsall - San Francisco over Detroit, 5 games, 6 HRs, pimped

Here is what a winning entry and all the correct tie breakers are

Giants over Royals, 7 games, 5 home runs.

But it's always nice when we don't have to go to the tie breakers.  And we had a great turn out this year.  43 people signed up without even knowing what I was giving away! Suckers.  Last year we had 30 entries, 2012 we had only 12, frowny face, and for the inaugural contest way back in 2011 we had 21, so a great turn out this year for sure.  I'm hoping for over 50 entries next year and hopefully I won't be in the throws of new baby, home renovation, work distopia and be able to assemble a great prize package for my 5th contest.

We had a great match up going into the World Series with 5 players making it to the final round, but only two really in contention and if the Royals had won, Jupiterhill would have correctly predicted the winner and the match up and the correct amount of homers.

So congrats to Paul, who's a Mets fan and will be getting a nice little Mets bonus in with his other prizes.

But I know you're all waiting for the door prize drawing.  I had a nice box set of 1991 Score Rookies that contained a sweet Tim McIntosh rookie card.  I also have other stuff to include in the package, but I'll let that be a surprise to the winner.

So I entered all 43 people into a list randomizer over at Random.org.  If you promoted the contest you got an extra entry.  I randomized the list 3 times and here are the results.

Congratulations to Nick from Dime Boxes - The Low End Baseball Card Collector's Journey

And thanks again everybody who entered.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!! 3rd Annual Almost the Easiest World Series Contest on the Web Winners!!

Well, well, well.  Boston finally cliches at home!  And we have the end to another contest here at Collector's Crack.

Out of the 30 entries only 2 guys correctly guessed the team to win it all.  Neither one correctly guessed the right opponent, but one did guess the right number of games.  Congrats to AdamE who writes the blog Thoughts and Sox, although he's been absent as of late.  But hopefull with this great win, both for his favorite team and my contest, he might have something to blog about. Adam expect an email from me soon, I just need to make sure your address is still the same. And congrats to Richard Nebe Jr, for also getting so close.

If you don't remember what you picked you can go here for the full list. and the prizes.

Here's what the complete correct prediction would have been.

Red Sox over Cardinals in 6, 6HRs

Here are the final round guesses.

Richard Nebe Jr - Boston over the Braves in 5 with 7 homers. PIMP

Cards from the Quarry - Cardinals over the Indians in 6 with 13 homers.

Bo - Cardinals over A's in 5 with 4 HRs

Superduperman99 - Cardinals over the A's in 6 with 9 home runs

Shane Patrick - Cardinals over A's in 6. 11 touh 'em alls

Andrew Carwile - Cardinals over Boston in 6. 6 homeruns

AdamE - Red Sox over Dodgers, 6 games, 14 HR.

Wilson -  Cardinals over Boston in 7, 10 HR PIMP

Congrats Adam, I'll have to see if I can dig up a few Sox for you too. Adam also has the distinction of being the only other blogger I've ever met in person.

Now onto the door prize winner.

I always like having a second prize, so at least all those who entered still have a shot at winning something and also as an incentive to pimp the contest. If you didn't see my post about it up for grabs were three vintage 1969 Topps cards.

Out of the 30 who entered I only had 4 people post a link to their pimp. If you pimped the contest you got an extra entry into the door prize drawing.  I took the list of entries, plus the extra pimp entries, 34 in all, over to Random.org and randomized the list 3 times. Below is the screen capture of the event.
Congrats to the Night Owl for taking home the vintage! And I'm glad he won too. Since only he was brave enough to take the Indians before the wild card games.  I'll have some Dodgers in the mix for you too.

And I want to thank everyone who entered.  I also managed to add 3 new followers in the mix too. And overall it was a great playoffs and World Series.  I'm sure a few Red Bird fans might disagree, but it was a great match-up and nobody got swept, as a matter of fact I have a few really good friends who are Sox fans and they were very nervous going into tonight's game.  I just hope the city of Boston can survive the party.

Adam and Greg I'll try and get your prizes out by Friday.  Thanks again.
