Fan Packin' Across the USA!! Yankees vs. Red Sox

I found my Yankees fan pack I got a couple of weeks ago and it must be fate that just the other day my Red Sox fan pack made it to me as well.  And since the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry is one of the oldest in sports history, lets keep it going by seeing how each team's fan packs stack up against each other.

Interestingly enough the Red Sox package was sent from Florida.

Lets start with the Red Sox.

First we have a letter from Phil Derick the Fenway Ambassador.  At first I was pretty in awe to get a hand written reply letter, but after looking a little closer and a quick search on the internet it's pretty obvious that this a reprinted form letter.  I also got a nice Red Sox sticker and a bag of Fenway dirt. Since this is my third Red Sox fan pack it's also my third bag of dirt.  So I'm slowly working on my own infield track made up of Fenway dirt.

There were also two picture postcards one of Wally the Green Monster and one of Adrian Gonzalez.

Did you know you could get Wally to come to your next birthday party?

I'm sure his traveling cost would make it a little cost prohibitive to get him up here in Alaska.

Next up the goodies from the Bronx.

We have here 2 bookmarks, 2 pencils, 2 sets of stickers, there are 3 stickers per sheet, and an advertisement for Yankee's Universe.

Two 2012 schedules. This year celebrating Jeter's 3000th hit.

Over all it's really close.  Both teams put out a very nice fan pack, but I'm going to have to give it to the Yankees.  Mainly because of the coloring book and pencils.

Cynicalbuddha's Top 100 #34

Another Reggie Triple Threads makes it's appearance on the Top 100.  This is a great triple relic featuring Reggie in 3 of his 4 team uni's. And of course it's low numbered. It would be nice to think that each relic corresponds to the right team, but of course with Topps we know better.

Reggie, Reggie, Reggie.

Oh the second time that Reginald has graced on  the Top 100.  Most likely won't be the last.  I'll be honest I'm not a huge fan of Triple Threads.  I find the relic cards clunky and some of the lettering silly.  Take this card.  10 WS HRS with the letter spacing all mixed up.  Now this card was advertised at 7 relics.  We all know that this isn't true.  Forget the fact that I practically stole this card off of ebay.  There are at most 3 separate relic pieces here and possibly only 2.  There are 7 die cut letters covering the relic pieces, hence the off letter spacing, but there is not seven individual relics on this card. And TTT just looks so similar from year to year, I guess you could argue that as a selling point. Enough ranting.  While I find Triple Threads to be way to over priced for pack breaking I don't mind picking up a few cards  off of ebay or where ever for my PC's.  And to be honest it seems people forget about Jackson.  I picked up this card and another one for dirt cheap.  And it's a multi relic low numbered card of a player I collect, so bully!!!!  Number 17 on the top 100...

Almost the easiest World Series contest of the Web!!!!

Since my Super Bowl contest was so much fun, I figured I'd copy the premise and do a World Series contest.

Almost the Easiest World Series Contest on the Web Web Web Web Web.

The contest simple:  Tell me who is going to win the World Series.  And then add who the opponent is and how many games in the series for tie breakers.  And since you people still might tie, tell me how many home runs in the entire series, both teams combine total.  So your entry should look something like this.

Brewers defeat Yankees in 5, 14 home runs.  Yeah it's a pipe dream.

I'm not sure yet, but it'll be good and on top of what ever I come up with I throw in a bunch of cards from the team of your choice.  These will include, base, inserts, parallels, maybe in even a relic.

You have until October 2nd.  I was going to make the deadline Sept 30 the start of the playoffs but seeing as the Wildcard race went up to the last day of the regular season, I figure I'll give you a few extra days.  I'll post the official entries Monday sometime.

Topps Variation Wish

So I posted a  few days ago some Trade Night pick ups.  One note I failed to mention was that these were all pack pulls no trades. As a matter of fact there were only 4 of us that showed up to the store.  It was probably my best chance at winning the give away I've ever had.

Anywho, one of the cards I pulled was this Reggie Jackson variation from Topps Update.

This is at least the 4th Reggie Jackson Variation Topps has put out I do believe he had a Angels, Yankees, and A's cards in last years set.  And doing a quick search I see he has at least one other variation in this years set as an Angel, so I will assume he has another Yankee variation out there as well so that brings us up to 6.  Here are last years.

I have at least 2 of these I can't remember which ones off the top of my head.  I stole these images off of Freedom Cardboard.
 Now I'm a Reggie fan.  But I'm kinda of a passive Reggie collector and very opportunistic in collecting his stuff.  That means I'm cheap and when I find a Reggie I need that's a good deal I'll usually scoop it up.  That being said I really like the Topps veteran variation cards.  Now anybody who knows Reggie knows he was a hotdog and a little self absorbed.  He knew he was good and he was cocky.  Mainly because he was that good.  He also played for 4 different teams in his career, 5 if you count the Athletics before they moved from Kansas City.  Probably best remembered as an A or Yankee, Reggie also put in 5 season with the Angels and one long forgotten season with the Orioles.  

I guess my wish would be that Topps would put out a nice Reggie variation in an Orioles Jersey or a KC Athletics with the KC logo on there.  I love the ecclectia and those would be great oddballs.
