Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web IV - Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!!!

Well, err, um....I did not see that coming.  That was one hell of an ass whooping.  Congrats to Seattle and Seahawks fans in general.
This year we had 4 people guess the correct team! So we have to go to the tie breakers and the first tie breaker is the Super Bowl opponent. We had one guy pick the match up, besides myself, and the correct winner. Not only that his prediction for the game was almost uncanny. Almost like he might have a time machine or a sports almanac from the future.

Here what the  correct guess would have been:
Seattle Seahawks over Denver Broncos, 51 points, 4 Turnovers,

Here are the finalists picks, check out Wilson's guess. Spot on. Incredible.

Corky - Seattle Seahawks over New England Patriots, 40 total points and 2 turnovers. PIMP

Cards from the Quarry -Seattle over Indianapolis, 48 points, 4 turnovers

Play at the Plate - Denver over Seattle, 52 points, 3 turnovers. PIMP

John Hazen - Seattle over New England 36 points, 2 turnovers

AdamE - Denver over Seattle 63 Points 4 turnovers

Wilson - Seattle over Denver, 50 points,4 Turnovers PIMP

Chris - Denver over Carolina, 49 points, 5 turnovers

Robert - Denver over San Francisco. 44 points and 2 turnovers.

Greg Zakwin - Denver over Packers, 63 points, 2 turnovers  PIMP

gcrl - Denver over Carolina 53 points 4 turnovers

The Big Kahuna - Denver BRONCOS over Da Seattle Seahawks 57 points 5 turnovers

Nathan Bell - Denver over San Francisco. 54 Points, 2 TO's

Dion's IP Autos Only - Denver over 49ers 65 points 3 turnovers PIMP

Nachos Grande - Broncos over Seahawks - 57 points, 3 turnovers.

Andy - Denver over Green Bay - 75 points, 2 turnovers

Justin - Broncos over Panthers, 35 points, 2 turnovers

Spankee -Broncos over Packers. 52 points. 1 turnover.

I really didn't expect any of the cards in the prize pool to be significant to the game, but looks like one of the autos in the grand prize features a Super Bowl champion quarterback..
I'm not sure how many of you guys noticed this but Tarvaris Jackson played the last series for the Seahawks. Mainly handing off the ball, but he did make one attempt at a pass.

So congrats to Wilson. I'll be sending you an email soon. I don't have your address.

Next we need to give out the door prize.  I had a couple really cool cards just for signing up and an extra entry of promoting the contest on your blog.

I entered all the names into Random.org and randomized the list three times

And the winner is....

Congrats to CaptKirk42 who takes home the door prize.

I want to thank everyone who entered and made this my most successful contest to date.  It was a great playoffs this year, even if the Super Bowl ended up being a little one sided.  Now just 56 days till baseball.

Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web IV - Conference Championship Chip Away

Well that was an interesing Sunday. I sure didn't expect the Pat's to get dominated and what a great game in Seattle. If you remember back to the official sign up post, I did predict the Super Bowl match-up. To be honest I didn't give it any realy thought. I just went with the two teams I thought were the best.  However after watching the Championship games I'd have to say I'm favoring Denver to take it all, but that's two weeks away.

We only officially lost 3 players, but there are a 5 guys who correctly picked both Super Bowl teams. Only Wilson picked the Seahawks to beat Denver.  If your name's in green you are one of the 5 finally guys who picked right.  This is the first time in contest history I've had anyone, let alone 5, pick both teams right.

Alright thanks guys. I'll have the contest winner and door prize winner after the Super Bowl.

Here are the entries going into today.

Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web IV- Divisional Playoff Pick off

I have to say that I didn't see any upsets this weekend. I would have liked to see Caroline pull out the win, but to be honest the final 4 aren't all that surprising. Hence why we lost 9 this round, but still have 20 people still in the running. And we have at least one pick for all four teams so there will be a winning with the right team, and there are still quite a few teams that could have the right opponent as well, which has never happned.

Alright guys and gals have a great week I won't bother you with another contest update till after the Conference Championship games are done.  I might bother you with other stuff.

Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web IV - Official Sign up Post

It's that time of year again.  Can't believe that the regular season's already over.  That just flew by.  But with the end of the regular season comes Collector's Crack Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web IV!!!  Man how great was it the the last game of the regular season meant something for a few divisions. And talk about some crazy games. I still can't believe my Packers made it in.

Like years past I just want you to tell me who's going to win the Super Bowl.  There are definitely a few teams that seem to be the front runners this year, but that means nothing now that it's win or go home time.
And since I'm sure a few of you guys will probably pick the same team to win we'll need a few tie breakers.  So in your entry also tell me who the opponent will be, total number of points, and total number of turnovers in the game (both teams fumbles and interceptions).

So your entry would look something  like this:

Seattle over Denver, 56 points, 4 turnovers

Here are your choices
NFC
Seattle Seahawks
Carolina Panthers
Philadelphia Eagles
Green Bay Packers
New Orleans Saints - Wildcard
San Fransisco 49ers - Wildcard

AFC
New England Patriots
Cincinnati Bengals
Indianapolis Colts
Denver Broncos
Kansas City Chiefs - Wildcard
San Diego Chargers - Wildcard

I know you're saying, "CB that's great, but what can we win?"

This year it's nothing but autos!!!

The Champion will get these two great cards!
I picked up this great 1996 Laserview Inscriptions card of Jim Everett a while back and I had thought about holding on to it, but it really is too cool. The card is one of those acetate cards and it's even hand numbered to 3100!
Next up is a great card of a not so great player, but the card is pretty sweet.  And if you happen to be a Vikings fan or if you're a Seahawks fan I guess your hoping you don't need him. Poor Tavaris really didn't get much of a chance as a starter and is probably one of those guys that will spend most of his career on the bench, but this is still a sweet card and it can be yours if you win.

Plus I'll throw in some cards from your favorite team. No promises on the greatness of those cards as most of my collection has been mothballed, but I can always raid Don's dime and dollar boxes.

But wait there's more.  Just for taking part in my little contest you can win this great card I just pulled from a hobby pack of Topps Strata.

You're probably saying to yourself who the heck is Mike Gillislee? like I was saying that a few moments ago. Well he was a Gator and after looking up his stats didn't do too shabby there. Unfortunetly this year he only saw playing time on the last game of the season with 6 carries for whopping 21 yards. And those are his rookie stats.  But the Dolphins are on the verge of....well the verge, so this could be a great prospect card. I'm just not going to be the one who's holding on to it.  Plus I'll throw in some extra goodies like always.
And don't forget if you pimp this contest on your blog I'll give you another entry into the door prize drawing!

Just leave a comment with a link to the pimp, you can do it with your entry or separate, I don't care.

Alright boys and girls it's on!!!
The contest will officially close at Noon Alaska Time, 4pm Eastern,  on Saturday Janurary 4th. The Colts - Chiefs game starts about a half hour after that. I'll be putting up reminders all week and I'll have an post with everybodies picks sometime on Saturday.  Good Luck and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.  CB out

4th Annual Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web - 2 minute warning

Wow I can't believe the season is almost over. I can't believe my Packers still have a shot at not only making the playoffs, but if things go right they might even win their division. Man when did the NFC North and NFC West switch places.  It's been a crazy season, a season that seems to have had an unusually high number of injuries.

And I know we still have 2 weeks till playoffs start, but I thought I'd put a reminder out there that I'll be hosting my 4th, yes that's right my 4th Annual Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web.  And why fix what ain't broke. The contest will be the same as always. I just want you to tell me who's going to win the Super Bowl.  Of course there will be tie breakers too, which makes it slightly less easier.

I don't know what the prizes will be just yet, but like usual there will be a great Grand Prize and a Door Prize for all who made the effort and an extra entry for those that advertise the contest.

Stay tuned!!!

Oh boy Oh boy Oh boy Oh boy

oh boy I hope we score!!!!

Ah man this week has drug on and on.  I'm glad it was a short one.  That being said.  It's almost time for some football.  Only 3 more weeks of it.  3 games that really mean anything.  Does anyone even care about the Pro Bowl?  I get why they moved it.  I guess it gives us something to watch for that week before the Superbowl.  I mean it's nice and all, but that means if anyone who made it to the Pro Bowl is on a Superbowl team they won't be there so it kinda makes it slightly less of a spectacle.

That being said I think I've come up with a sweet bonus prize for Almost the Easiest Superbowl Contest on the Web.  I'll post it tomorrow or Sunday after the games.  That being said just a reminder there are only 5 people still in the running for the contest.  As long as the Jets don't win someone will probably win out right right now.  Nobody picked the Jets to even make it so they could be the spoiler and if that happens well we'll have to see.

Out of the 5 still in it we have 3 teams that have opponents still in it and 2 that have winners but not losers.  Like I said if the Jets make it in it could be a spoiler but that just means we go to the score.  See that's why I had you pick all that stupid stuff and why this wasn't the easiest Super Bowl contest on the Web.

Here are the 5.

Adam E: STEELERS over Bears 17-6

Mark: PACKERS over Patriots 24-17
mike: BEARS over Steelers 20-14
Colby (Flywheels): STEELERS over Falcons 24-17
Kev2380: BEARS over Patriots 24-20

And a reminder of what your all playing for....

I keep getting Late Notifications from Topps about shipping these cards.  I think we are up to week 4 now that they are behind now.  I'll assume that they're printing all these at once, and I'll hope that they start sending them out before the expiration date.  And as I look over at my counter I notice that we are getting dangerously close to 10,000 hits.  yeaaaaaaaa.  And I've hit 50 followers and I'm at about 218 posts so that means I'm due for a celebratory contest of one or all of these great blogging milestones.  I'm sure it will involve cards, and random acts of drunkenness, and possibly bacon.  No promises on the cards though.

Alright dudes and dudettes I better get back to work.

Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web Almost Time for Round 2

Wow this was a slow week.  It drug on by.  Luckily I've got a Beer Festival in my immediate future and my game isn't on till 4pm tomorrow night my time so I've got time to sleep off the hangover.  But before I go out and forget you all for the weekend I figure I should put the standings up one more time since they are slowly getting moved down the blog list.
Here are the Ins and Outs going into Round 2 the Divisional Playoffs.

 (now with color coding)

In It to Win It
Adam E: STEELERS over Bears 17-6
cubsfan731: PATRIOTS over Falcons 23-14
Captain Canuck: PATRIOTS over Falcons 42-31
Mark: PACKERS over Patriots 24-17
Fuji: PATRIOTS over Packers 24-17
seemahn: FALCONS over Patriots 28-24
Community Gum: PATRIOTS over Falcons 31-17
Offy: PATRIOTS over the Falcons 31-14
Kev2380: BEARS over Patriots 24-20
Milwaukee Southpaw: FALCONS over Steelers 27-24
Colby (Flywheels): STEELERS over Falcons 24-17
Wicked Ortega: RAVENS over Patriots 21-17
mike: BEARS over Steelers 20-14
steve: PATRIOTS over Packers 24-17

14, just 14 make it to round two with possible match-ups. Now to be honest there are still people that picked a team still in it but picked an opponent that is not. So those still technically in it and if lets say the Patriots play the Seahawks everybody who picked the Pats are still in it ect.

The Wild Cards

Play at the Plate: PATRIOTS over Eagles 38-21
Steve D: PATRIOTS over Saints 35-27
dayf: FALCONS over Colts 30-28

And lastly we have those that have fallen, but like I keep saying there will be a bonus prize which everybody who entered will be in the running for... What is it? I still don't know.

The Fallen:

Spankee: EAGLES over the Pats 27-24
BA Benny: SAINTS over Pats 38-31
Mariner1: SAINTS over Steelers 27-17
Nathan: COLTS over Saints 24-17
dawgbones: EAGLES over Steelers 27-17

Yeah I just cut and pasted it for the earlier post but it's going to be really lonely if we have any major upsets this weekend.  Hmmm nobody picked the Jets either.  Seahawks/Jets in the Superbowl.  I really hope not.  No offense to any Seahawks or Jets fans out there but you all know I want my Packers in there.  We'll see who I'm rooting for come Monday.

Have a good weekend everybody.

Oh my liver............

Wow I'm getting old,  anybody remember the reference?

Oh my liver??!!??

Well no not yet but soon I'm sure my liver will ache.  I use to be quite a drinker.  I'm not particularly proud of that anymore.  I guess that comes with age.  Back in the day I loved going out the bars with the hope, chance, glimmer that I might get laid.  But now being almost married and owning a house and dog, I have no real desire to just go out and get shit faced.  I don't even like drinking at home when I'm sitting around.  For some reason it holds no interest for me.  Now bring a few friends into the picture and that's different.  I love having a beer in my hand almost need a beer in my hand.  It is a social lubricant.

Your probably saying to yourself, cynicalbuddha, what the hell does that have to do with anything remotely about your blog.  To which I say almost nothing.  It does however lead into the Divisional Playoff games this weekend.  Such a busy weekend.

Friday night is the annual Anchorage Brew Festival.  Well the first night of Brewfest.  Actually I do believe its called the Great Alaska Beer and Barley Wine Festival but I digress.  I'm going the first night because I have a going away party to attend Saturday and all my friends are going Friday and I want to watch Football on Saturday as well.  And of course I'm probably going to have to go watch football on Sunday as well.  It's almost over come on.  I think I'm going to drive my fiance crazy once football's over.  Come on spring training.  I guess I've been posting pretty regularly the last couple of months.  Boredom at work will do that too you.  The fools don't block blogger but they block everything else.  Except of course Yahoo sports and then I have to read terrible articles by Chris Chase.  Dont' believe me go to the Shutdown Corner on Yahoo and read some of his stuff.  I would say 98% of the bloggers I read on my blog roll and the Sports Card Blogroll are better writers and reporters than that jackoff.   I don't expect most bloggers or myself to be exceptionally coherent but when you get paid to do it and have a national outlet I would think you would be a little better.  Sorry Sorry.  Ranting, Tangential.

Point being I think I might have to take the next couple of days off.  So I'm sure I'll have a update for Almost the Easiest Super Bowl Contest on the Web, Sunday night or Monday morning.  What ever.

Oh and I've updated my needs list over there on the right.  Check it out.  I'm getting really close to finishing my 2010 Turkey Red set, so any help would be greatly appreciated or with any of the cards on my need list.  And I'm going to start pushing for my 2009 Turkey Red set.  Look in your stacks see if you've got any laying around.

Almost the Easiest Superbowl Contest on the Web Standing Update

Wow what a weird, great weekend for football, well for some of us.  Crazy, unexpected, shocking are some of the colorful terms I've seen used.  I was reading another awful article by Chris Chase at Yahoo Sports, because it's the only site I can read at work, did I mention how awful his writing is, worse than mine, but this is not my chosen profession, sorry sorry, anyways he says the the Colts lost due to Caldwell's timeout just before the Jets kicked their field goal.  Now I'll agree probably not the smartest decision of the game but is it worse than running into the kicker so the Jets get the ball back or having a minute left and all your timeouts in the first half and not doing anything?  No it was a terrible game for the Colts all around and they still almost won, I don't expect the Jets to make it much further but then I didn't expect Seattle to show up either and they sure did.  I'll be torn next week as I'm no fan of either the Pats or the Jets but I would love some reason for Rex Ryan to shut up and the Pats look good.  Ok got that out of my system.  Just one comment on the Packers though, I was waiting the whole game for them to lose and we almost did.  I'm a die hard Packers fan, make no mistake, I'm from a small town in northern Wisconsin where love for the green and gold run deep, but I've seen my team piss away a 20+ point lead in the 4th quarter to lose so I take nothing for granted. Needless to say I was holding my breath most of the game.  I can't wait for the game against the Falcons, I almost wish we were taking  on the Bears first,  the Falcons have kinda been the quite winners this season.  They keep winning and winning but it doens't seem like they get a lot of coverage.  I think if I was going to make an educated guess at the 2 best teams right now, in all honesty it's probably the Pats and the Falcons, but on any given Sunday or Saturady for that matter, yadda yadda yadda.

Ok so onto the Contest Update.  Well this weekend really screwed a few people.  To see the prediction go here.

So here are the people still in it to win it. (now with color coding)

Adam E: STEELERS over Bears 17-6

cubsfan731: PATRIOTS over Falcons 23-14

Captain Canuck: PATRIOTS over Falcons 42-31

Mark: PACKERS over Patriots 24-17

Fuji: PATRIOTS over Packers 24-17

seemahn: FALCONS over Patriots 28-24

Community Gum: PATRIOTS over Falcons 31-17

Offy: PATRIOTS over the Falcons 31-14

Kev2380: BEARS over Patriots 24-20

Milwaukee Southpaw: FALCONS over Steelers 27-24

Colby (Flywheels): STEELERS over Falcons 24-17

Wicked Ortega: RAVENS over Patriots 21-17

mike: BEARS over Steelers 20-14

steve: PATRIOTS over Packers 24-17

14, just 14 make it to round two with possible match-ups. Now to be honest there are still people that picked a team still in it but picked an opponent that is not.  So those still technically in it and if lets say the Patriots play the Seahawks everybody who picked the Pats are still in it ect.

The Wild Cards

Play at the Plate: PATRIOTS over Eagles 38-21

Steve D: PATRIOTS over Saints 35-27

dayf: FALCONS over Colts 30-28

And lastly we have those that have fallen, but like I keep saying there will be a bonus prize which everybody who entered will be in the running for... What is it?  I still don't know.

The Fallen:
Spankee: EAGLES over the Pats 27-24

BA Benny: SAINTS over Pats 38-31

Mariner1: SAINTS over Steelers 27-17

Nathan: COLTS over Saints 24-17

dawgbones: EAGLES over Steelers 27-17

So out of 22 only 5 are outright out.  Not too shabby.  Nobody picked the Seahawks so if the Hawks go all the way this could be a major upset for the contest, but wow.  Again thanks to all who entered and I'll do another update after division games next week and then on the Conference Championships.

Update:  As mike points out below I failed to notice that Wicked Ortega's matchup is impossible, my bad.  But remember this contest only asked for a winner, the opponent and scores are tie-breakers, and since Ortega is the only one to pick the Ravens he's still in, maybe he planned that all along???? He is Wicked after all.

I want to thank everybody who entered and for everybody you pimped the contest and welcome to the 5 new followers.  I have to say this has boosted traffic to the site tremendously which is great.
Don't forget I'm going to be having another contest for the 200th post which is long gone now and for my 10,000th hit which is coming up, I still need to work something out for both of those but for now lets enjoy the playoffs.

18. Wicked Ortega: RAVENS over Patriots 21-17
19. mike: BEARS over Steelers 20-14
20. Nathan: COLTS over Saints 24-17
21. steve: PATRIOTS over Packers 24-17
22. dayf: FALCONS over Colts 30-28

Here are the official winning and tie break rules.  If you picked the winning team and only you, you win, of course.  If you picked the winning team and so did 18 other people we move to if you picked the right opponent.  If you were the only one who did you win, of course.  If you picked the winning team and the right opponent and 5 other people did we move to the final score.  First it will be winning team score.  Closet wins.  If more than one person picked the closest or right score we move to the opponent score.  If by some chance there are 2 people who pick the exact same thing and we have no winner I will put your names in a RNG(Random Number Generator) and then we will have a winner. I'm fairly sure that won't happen, but just in case.  Seems the major prediction is the Super Bowl will be Patriots and the Falcons.  I think that would be a good match up, not as good as say, oh the Packer and Colts but I'm a dreamer, plus by fiances favorite team is the Colts.

Last Call for Almost the Easiest Superbowl Contest on the Web

Last day to enter, remember you have until 4pm Saturday EST.  I still haven't decided what to offer as a bonus prize for all entrants.  I'll work on it.  19 entries 1 more for and even 20.  I've got 46 followers now I would expect at least half of you would enter.  Or not.  On an even happier not in blog news I have hit over 200 posts so I'm working on a 200+ post contest.  What will it be?  I don't know.  Alright I should have an official entry list after noon tomorrow.

Almost the easiest Superbowl Contest on the Web 2 Days left

Only 2 days left slackers,  15 entries, 3 new followers, and one franchising fee so far.  If you liked my contest go over to Justin's World for his eerily similar Super Bowl contest.  Actually Justin gave me total props for the idea and even offered some free swag for using the idea, I say more the merrier, you can't have enough contests.  And it ain't that original of an idea.  But you should still enter my contest if you haven't.  I've had 84 page views for the contest and only 15 brave souls dared to venture a guess.  I'm still waiting for the guy who's going to risk it all and  take the Seahawks all the way.

I've also decided to add a bonus prize just for entering.  I haven't figured out what that is yet but it'll probably be something terrible, I mean great!!!

Also check out the other contests around the blogoteria.

My 2008 Topps Set Blog is having a contest even easier than mine for a box of Bowman Chrome all you have to do is follow his blog.  I do.

The Card Investor or TCI if your cool is giving away a shit ton of sets just for being a follower and giving some feedback.

You missed Play at the Plates first contest but you better be a follower so you don't miss anymore jackwagon!!

And don't forget the Wicked 1 over at My Past Time I Love It he's giving away a 2008 Masterpieces set, but arguably he's got the hardest contest out of all of us.

Hey you better get busy.

Almost the Easiest SuperBowl Contest on the Web 3 Days Left

The clock is ticking.  I can hear it, or maybe its a bomb under the table either way there is a definite ticking going on.

The first of the playoff games starts at 4:30 eastern time, 12:30 my time, I already got the Pabst chilling in the fridge.  That means the deadline for getting your picks in is 4:00pm eastern or 12 noon my time or what ever time it is relative to where you live.  I stole the logo up there from some web site, dates wrong, it's February 6th not 4th, maybe its when you're suppose to start drinking, whatever not important to the contest.  And I see I finally snagged 3 more followers, so this contest has been a success no matter how you look at it.  It also increased my traffic considerably.

Remember all I want is the winning team, plus who they beat and the score.  But mainly the team.  If you guess the Seahawks and they take it, well that would be something, you win, and I probably won't have to go to a tie breaker, but it looks like the Pats are the team to beat again.  I'm rooting for the Packers at least this Sunday, we'll see who I get to root for next week.

You can leave comments here but take the link above to enter your official prediction.

Remember up for grabs is a set of 2010 NFL Topps Rookie Redemption code cards,  there are some great rookies in there.  Plus I'm probably going to add a bonus prize for all who enter and draw a name randomly.  What will it be who knows, maybe a hand full of dog-eared 1988 Donruss baseball cards,  I guess that would be a prize for me getting rid of them.  It'll be something good I promise, well maybe I promise.

One entry per person, thanks to the 13 people who've entered already.
I'll have an official list of entries probably after the games on Saturday since I'm probably not going to be home watching the games this weekend.

Only 4 More days to Enter almost the easiest Super Bowl Contest in the Blogoteria

We've only got a month left of football. Four more weekends and then I have to start doing things around the house on Sundays again.  So far only 7 have entered and thanks to the new stat option on the dashboard I know you guys are looking.  I'm not even asking you to be followers, although that would be nice, or pimp my contest, again that would be nice, I just want you to tell me who's going to win.  Go to my contest post to enter.

Remember add who you think they'll beat and the final score in case everybody picks the Pats, we all know the Seahawks are going to take it down, and just in case nobody guesses right, although I'm sure a few will, I will put all the names in the hat and draw a winner from all the entries either way.  Up for grabs a complete set of 2010 Topps Rookie of the Week Redemption cards thanks to Don's Sportcards of Anchorage Alaska, sorry he doesn't have a website.

No more excuses ENTER already.  Remember you have until Noon Alaska time.  That's 4pm on the East Coast.
