Collecting out of Spite

Have you ever collected a set or insert set simply out of spite?  I've been collecting Topps' Stars of MLB since they were introduced in 2022 as a retail exclusive insert.

As someone who likes to build sets the only unopened product I'm likely to open now is retail.  Hobby has become just too expensive to justify.

So as a retail product buyer the Stars of MLB inserts can pile up as you get at least one per pack or more depending on the product.   So as they started to accumulate I decided I was going to put the sets together.

Not because I hated the cards, and to be fair I think the design as improved every year, but because they were just everywhere.  It was getting kind of annoying and they were just sitting in dime boxes, in stacks on my desk, falling out of my retail packs where that one last card I needed for the set should have been.

But no matter why I started collecting and putting the sets together, I do like the idea of the set.  It reminds me of those great boxed sets from the 80s and 90s that featured only the best players and superstars from the League. Like Fleer Baseball MVPs, Topps Kmart Dream Team,  and Score Scoremasters.

Have you every decided to collect or put together a set out of spite.  I'd love you hear which sets vexed you so much you just had to put the set together.
